I think that the creative idea behind the portrait of Olena Zelenska by Annie Leibovitz is strong and unique.

The photographer was inspired by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s Mademoiselle Cha-u-kao, The Seated Clowness artwork that we can find in MOMA: https://www.moma.org/collection/works/63510

The pose, mood, outfit, and light on Zelenska’s photo: https://www.instagram.com/p/CgeYv23AQ69/ referee to Lautrec’s painting.
Tired after exhausting work callowness Sha-Yu-Kao sits forgetting to worry about the pose or beauty, ironically looking at the world. Same as a First Lady.

Leibovitz wanted to show that everything happening in the modern world is an absurd theatre with ridiculous decorations.
The photographer shows through Zelenska all the strength of a Ukrainian woman experiencing the war’s realities.

Another reference point could be Volodymyr Zelensky’s road: from ex-comedian to “war president”.

So what do you think about the new Vogue’s photoshooting with Ukrainian first lady Zelenska and her husband Volodomyr Zelensky as protagonists? Is this a way to looking for peace? Here the link https://www.instagram.com/p/CgelD26An9U/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
